Dress Watch Ideas for my Dad $800-$1500

Hello all:

At Thanksgiving my father asked me for some advice on a nice dress watch 40ish MM. he has looked at the Oris Big Crown Propilot and liked that but it was more than he wanted to spend. He might be able to get something like that on the grey market but I told him. About microbrands and he was interested in that as well. So I thought I would reach out and see what ideas you all can help me come up with. Here he is with two that he liked. I was thinking about Christopher Ward as an alternative. What do you guys think about the Tissot Powermatic 80? Is that a decent movement? Always appreciate this forum! Happy Thanksgiving all. Steve

The Powermatic 80 is fine, I'd stay away from microbrands purely because I think there are more stable options. Seiko, Hamilton, Citizen, Tissot all offer decent watches around that price point

Hey Steve! Yes, the Tissot Powermatic is a great choice. I have a PRX and love it. But if he's looking for a more elegant and classy design, I recommend the Gentleman: https://www.benbridge.com/jewelry/tissot-gentleman-powermatic-80-silicium-black-dial-watch-40mm-12028700.html

I'm also a big fan of Longines. I think they make some of the best dress watches within that price point. This is the one I have and would definitely recommend it, but it does cost a little bit more than a Tissot: https://www.jomashop.com/longines-watch-l47954782.html

I'd check out Nomos and it's Orion. Models. 35mm and 38mm options you can find around $1.5K. Thin with a simple, clean dial.
