Watch buying in Barbados

I will be in Barbados soon and see they have tax free shops that sell luxury watches. Little Switzerland is one shop as an example. Does anyone have any experience of purchasing tax free and bringing back to the UK?

A friend of mine registered interest in a Rolex when on holiday in Barbados.

They called him a few weeks later offering the watch so he flew out there again to pick it up!

Thank you, do you know if he had to declare it when he flew back? I'm thinking the watch on the wrist is fine, but then you have the box in your bag if you get stopped by customs.

As far as I know he didn’t declare it. Whether he had to or not, I’m not sure..

I would suggest you check the tax/import duty to the UK from Barbados as they are no longer part of Great Britain

I believe they have AD status but don’t stock all products in all locations but they can sell tax free. If it is a scam they have a lot of investment in chat bots, physical locations and personal shopping assistance.

That is my concern the import duty would write off any saving in duty free, the only other saving would be on currency difference.

You can log into the gov website and work out the tax before you buy ,to me the only gain is getting it quicker, but go grey if the difference isn't too great in this country
