Lorier Safari…is it any good?

I am once again wearing the recently released Lorier Safari. I was one of the lucky ones that actually got my hands on one, as it sold out rather quickly.

My initial impression as I unboxed it was that it is really small, smaller than I am used to, but after a few weeks of wrist time it’s starting to grow on me. I am actually starting to love this watch. The dial is simple yet classy. The hand set is awesome. The lume is quite descent. It has a screw down crown with 100m water resistance. What’s not to love? Well…I have a few small grievances. I wish it was just a couple of millimeters bigger allowing for a 20mm lug width, which would make this a strap beast. I also wish they had gone with the domed sapphire instead of the hesalite. I know they were trying to stay true to a vintage look and keep the cost down, but damn!!! Hey, at least Lorier included a tube of Polywatch. Wasn’t that nice of them?

Overall I am very happy with this piece and always looking to find an excuse to wear it.

Do any of you have this piece? Maybe the copper dial version? If so, what do you think?

As much as I love the brand, this one did not resonate with me as much. I think this is Lorier’s way of testing the waters of what would happen if they departed from the usual “grammar of design” case that they use for all their watches (to borrow the term from GS). I’m sure the watches sold like pancakes I wonder if this was the watch release rumored during WindUp.

Is this one that the urban gentry helped design? Hmmmm… the size is great and handset. It does seem to have gone for too many vintage inspirations though, the crosshair dial, the explorer style numerals, the railway track minute markers it’s just a bit busy somehow.
Having said all of that, these things are very hard to tell from one photo from one angle, and in the metal these opinions could possibly change.
Most important is that you like it!

(Image failed to load!)I picked one up as an end-of-the-year / holiday gift to myself and it's been getting quite a bit of wrist time since it arrived. I have rather small wrists (6 1/4 inch), and most of my watch straps are 18mm, so the overall the size has been nothing short of perfect for me. I'd been meaning to pick up something from Lorier for a while, ever since seeing them at a watch event in NY, and this was almost too good to be true. Urban Gentry videos definitely played a role in my deeper dive into watches, and I order straps from Wrist Candy Watch Club (who made the included perlon) all the time, so it was a fun overall combo. I can definitely see and understand where it may not be some folks' cup of tea, but I personally don't see this one leaving my wrist much anytime soon. Looks great on your wrist as well! 🙂

Yes, this is the collaboration between Lorier and TGV. The pictures do not do this piece any justice. Once it’s on your wrist you don’t want to take it off. When the light hits those blue hands…stunning.

Same here. I can’t stop wearing this damn thing. Most of my watches are bigger with 20mm or 22mm lug widths. So my strap selection is limited, but I’m getting used it. I’m actually enjoying it.

impressed with the what seems like a nice solid build, nice balanced dial and hand set at a great retro sizing nice purchase

I understand what you mean ( ie getting used to it) bought the Bulova Ltd Edition Swiss version Mill Stat reissue true to history w 16mm lugs...founds some nice rubber straps on line and the watch wears very nicely sort of a 50 fathoms vibe

enjoy the lorier👍

Beautiful watch! I’ve been researching Lorier like crazy this past week ever since @Max posted his video on the Astra. I have yet to find a negative review of their watches! Their design ethos is great and their motive for making watches is just awesome! I love the iterative steps they make each year with their Series I, II, III etc. I can’t wait to get one!
