About Going 20 Interested 22

January in Chicago is depressing, and after spending quite a bit of time with relatives and watching 2023 SOTC, “most worn watch” and “best watch of ‘23” videos from our favorite YouTubers, I’m sure we’ll all have a lot to catch up on over drinks and appetizers.

My name is Sean, I’m pretty new to WatchCrunch but would love to meet up in Chicago in January. I am totally flexible as to the date and time above. I’m a member at the University Club and could host a small group there. If we have a lot of demand, we can definitely move it to another location.

Looking forward to meeting some Chicago crunchers! Hit me up directly or in the comments if you have any thoughts on time, date, location, etc.

Meet your host

Sean

HMU if you’re in Chicago! Baltimore transplant by way of New York.

I’m definitely in! (Assuming my work schedule allows me)

·

I would like to attend!

·

Awesome! We’ll keep an eye on interest here and if we get more than 6 we can find another venue.

·

I should be able to make it. Have to be able to bring my wife. Please let me know if doable.

·

Definitely interested! I'm new to the game, but I'm already in deep and would love to get some drinks and meet some local crunchers.

·

Definitely interested!

More than doable! Open to all.

·

Tons of interest, which is awesome. We should find a bigger location - I might suggest the Irish Nobleman in West Town. Great setting for a winter meetup (terrific pint of Guinness), reasonably central location and they have a large space that could easily accommodate our group. Please weigh in with any thoughts!

Looks like a great bar - seems perfect

As long as you're not currently hiding a full blown watch addiction from her 😂

·

I’m interested! 😁

·

I'm interested but not sure if I'll be able to make it down from Milwaukee. Everything I have right now is probably considered low budget tier, but I guess it's a chance to see some great stuff and meet some cool people.

Outing himself at the Irish Nobleman would be a legendary move!

Just a heads up, West Town has seen a recent spike in armed robberies. I was held up at gunpoint on 10/23 in Ravenswood for $20.

Definitely good idea to have ur head on a swivel.. these guys are mostly very young and generally very undisciplined when it comes to trigger awareness. If god forbid, u happen to be targeted at some point.. best bet is to just give them what they want and have them leave asap. Which brings me to a related topic, how many of u guys insure ur watches? And if so, what company do or service is good?

I'm interested in attending in the next meetup if it's on any other day. Thursdays just don't work for me.

I only have insurance on one of my watches. I use Jewelers Mutual and it’s around $10/month with no deductible and it covers almost anything (including theft). It’s kinda worth it for me for the piece of mind.

It is indeed! Looking like it will be a balmy 22 degrees in Chicago come Wednesday. I am open to moving the location, however. I chose this venue bc it’s reasonably central and accessible, but certainly am not married to it. Open to recommendations!

I will try to get there in time but during those hours traffic going towards the city can be crazy.

·

I will be with you all in spirit! I’m a new Cruncher and would love to meet some folks but I work until 7 on the North Shore. I’ll look forward to another opportunity!

·

Hi all - super excited for tomorrow! I spoke with the Irish Nobleman today and they’ll have some tables reserved for us. At the bar, just mention you’re here for the watch crunch meetup and they’ll direct you to the right spot.

If you’re so inclined, please feel free to bring any watches, tools, straps, EDC etc. that you think your fellow Crunchers will enjoy. I’ll recommend some quick ground rules at the outset for handling others’ pieces etc.

Can’t wait to crunch it up with the Midwest crew!

I just arrived. You can ask for Sean’s party of 15 at the bar, or just walk left into the other room with the fireplace which is where we will be. See you all soon.

·

I was en route, when my ETA unexpectedly increased from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours due to a delay. I decided to turn back and head home. It's disappointing to miss the gathering, but the prospect of spending almost 2 hours in the car after a long day wasn't appealing to me. Have fun.

·

Great meetup tonight! Thanks for organizing, @SeanPCays. Looking forward to the next get together.

·

Great time boys! Awesome too see some of ur time pieces in person. Looking forward to the next one. Maybe had one too many Guinness… but home safe!

·

Fantastic Windy City Meetup! Great watch discussions with an awesome group. Sean, thanks for organizing everything!
