Montreal Bachelor Party in February

I will be attending a bachelor party in Montreal in February could use tips. This will be a 4 day trip at the beginning of February:

  1. What Hotel would you recommend?
  2. What the heck am I supposed to pack? (For the record, I live in Florida and have as much cold weather gear as Satan so any gear recommendations are appreciated)
  3. Any cool bars, breweries, or restaurants that you recommend?
  4. Last and most importantly, any interesting watch shops that I should check out?

  1.  Depends on budget and where the batchelor party will be held. Near the Bell Centre, or Chinatown is pretty much walking distance to a lot of cool stuff. For expensive there is the is a Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, and on the budget end there is a Travel Lodge right at the entrance to Chinatown.
  2.  Layers are your friend. I suggest a quality puffy down jacket, a good rain shell, and sweaters/flannel shirts. With those three layers you can keep your core warm while moving between buildings. They are also more likely to be useful over the years than a single heavy winter coat. Mittens look uncool, but are warmer than gloves. If you go with gloves, light ski gloves are likely sufficient. Carrying around bulky gloves indoors gets old fast. Buy a toque, they look silly but work and are easy to stuff in a pocket. For brands, I'd recommend Outdoor Research, The North Face, Eddie Bauer, or Patagonia. They aren't cheap, but are usually very good/warm. Lastly, a good pair of hiking boots with warm socks will be more than enough for walking around the city, no need for expensive winter boots if you're not planning to be outside for more than an hour or so. Cold kills, but it takes a while, you'll know well before any permanent damage occurs.
  3.  La Cage is a sports bar chain that exists only in Quebec, what makes it worth checking out in the menu. They do a lot of delicious foods you wouldn't expect to get at a typical sports bar. Also check out Taverne Gaspar, it's a very cool pub in the old city.
  4.  I've got nothing, I've never watch shopped in Montreal.
