I have 4 watches in my collection with drilled lugs only one modern my Timex gent that cost $40 if I remember correctly. The 3 vintage pieces a Timex q, a pulsar and a cheap fluted bezel watch all have them and I highly doubt they were really expensive new. So my question is why can't this be done more now in the lower price tiers? I can't imagine it would add that much to the cost.

Drilled lugs are almost certainly cheaper to make and arguably aestehtically inferior with no real upside, or am I missing something? Well okay, unless you are removing a bracelet with tight end link bit even then their utility is somewhat questionable in my opinion. With improved manufacturing capabilities I assume more and more manufacturers are moving away.
