Vintage LCD love?

This one comes from the rubbish bin. To be more precise, a plastic bag full of old, cheap Chinese quartz watches headed for the bin. I got the bag a few months ago from my watchmaker. He had a customer come in who wanted to get rid of everything; nothing was worth much. There was a gold ring that he gave him some money for, the rest was headed for the landfill, before he gave them to me for me to practise on or to use as spares. This Lambda was the only thing (other than a fake Seiko 5, but let's not talk about my poor judgement) that stood out to me. I only realised my love for it last night, for some odd reason, like it was calling my name. A battery change and very intense clean later and here it is. It's probably late 70s early 80s. I think what sparked my love for it was seeing a picture of another Lambda in a video, convincing me that it wasn't another mystery Chinese brand. These aren't really collectable, and it isn't difficult to see why. At least it's a tiny piece of history from the LCD-boom back in the day. I'm relieved it still works. Does anyone here maybe know a little more about the brand?

Oh, and lambda is the symbol for wavelength. As an aspiring science-man, I think that's pretty cool.

Am generally not a fan of digital watches, but did own an anvil-reliable Timex Atlantis as a daily driver for the better part of the 1990s. The watch eventually did succumb to fate however and I pretty much forgot about it. Last year I discovered that Timex had re-released a re-issue, which I bought for nostalgic purposes 😀 Bonus is that it is a great piece to wear while playing guitar on account of its light weight and low profile! 😎

That's awesome! I'm also not a big fan of digital watches, although I do enjoy the vintage mechanical digital watches, too bad most of those come with pretty low-end movements. This Lambda just wanted a second chance and it costed me almost nothing to get it going. Don't we all deserve a second chance?

Yeah ... this latest Atlantis re-issue doesn't seem to be as well built as the 90's originals either ... especially the PITA pusher-buttons!!

They really don't make them like they used to. This Lambda has a full metal case. It is stainless steel plated base metal, but that still gives it more heft and better weight distribution than modern Casios with steel bracelets and plastic cases.

My old 2009 vintage resin cased Timex Expedition "beater" is actually waaaay sturdier feeling than the 2022 Atlantis ... which seems to run a bit slow too oddly?? I wear the Atlantis mainly when I'm playing guitar on account that it's so light weight
