Citizen Corso Review

Here my next installment from my Box of Citizens.

The Corso, last one on the top row and second to last on the bottom is a 3 hand date quartz powered by a J810 EcoDrive. This is a basic entry level watch with a mineral crystal and a polished steel case. I have the silver dial AW1236-03A, which has a nice sunburst finish on the dial and a black dial (now discontinued) with a less attractive central dial, which looks more like a darkened solar cell. Both watches are accurate to a few seconds a month and have run well for more than 5 years. The cases look almost plated, but the finish has worn well. Also neither crystal has scratched, which I sometimes find to be a problem with the Citizen mineral crystals on their field watches. I’ve replaced both bands - the Citizen OG ‘leather’ bands have an unpleasant lining that feels stiff and doesn’t wear well. The silver dial, now on a Barton black leather band with white stitching, gets quite a few compliments and the two toned silver/gold case on the black dial now lives on a NATO that picks up the contrast.

We’ve had some discussions recently on less expensive quartz watches, fun fashion ones and more entry level models. There are pretty great watches for about $150! I think they deserve some respect for what they do. They get less wear from me now, but are nice mementos of my growing interest in watches over the years.
