The new Seiko 5 SSK023K1

I wasnt planning to buy a new watch but here it is.

Since I got my “Batman 5KX GMT”, it quickly became one of my favourite watches, and when Seiko anounced a GMT version for their SRPG models I became curious.

I am also a big fan of the Rolex Explorer II, but spending a 4 to 5 digit value for a watch is a bit against my nature.

I was amazed how this new watch looks and feels so much better than the previous SRPG version.

The fixed bezel and GMT hand really give it a very adventure style vibe without subtracting any elegance from the watch

Perfect size at 40mm, slides easily under de sleeve, making it a better winter watch than the 5KX GMT.

Dark grainy dial works well with the light red from the GMT hand, seconds hand and GMT text.

Great lume I must add.

The bracelet was also a surprise, solid, well articulated and very confortable.

Unfortunately the clasp is a standard Seiko 5 clasp.

It also has a smooth wind and is ticking at solid +4s a day, not bad at all!

Noticed absolutely no QC issues with the watch.

So from my part… I’m loving it.

Affordable, well put together…

And for someone who will probably never will be able to afford an Explorer II, this puts a smile on my face and allows me to have a very similar style watch for a fraction of the cost or worry.

I bought it for 439€, and think that the price should be more around the 350€ mark, considering many micro brands offer more in this price range.

Still, it’s a Seiko. The brand I used more and respected all my life, and for me, that counts.
