I Dub Thee Knight

I’ve never really been into the whole knights-and-dragons fantasy scene or medieval anything, but I’d had my eye on this microbrand Valimor for a while nonetheless. Their styling is meant to evoke medieval times, King Arthur, Excalibur, and the like, and it really does—if you don’t believe me, go check out their website. If dragonslayers wore watches, I imagine they’d look something like these. I like watches that are interesting and different, so I knew I’d add a Valimor to my collection someday. This Aurora of Arthur hit Kickstarter a while back and I knew it was the one. Aside from the Arthurian styling, this piece ticked a lot of boxes my collection was missing: red dial, open heart, and small seconds among them. When I got the piece in hand, I was really impressed with it, especially the 3-dimensionality of the dial with its angular, floating hour markers and cutout at 7:00. The movement isn’t anything special to look at, but the decorated rotor sure is. The bezel has a significant amount of backplay, but I don’t care about that, as I never turn them. Overall, it’s a killer looking watch and a real conversation starter. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go shopping for a sword and a suit of armor.

If it looks half as good in real life compared to the (great) photos, that is a stunner.

Thanks. I did the best I could with my iPhone camera, but I really do think it looks better in real life. I wasn’t able to get an adequate shot of light dancing on the mother of pearl dial, but here’s a still from a wrist roll video that somewhat shows it.

Yes! Your detailed review of the Kilgharrah, which shares the same case, factored into my decision to buy this one! Thank you. 🙏🏻
