IWC Pilot Chronograph 43

This was one of my grail watch.

Got it in 2022, and let go in 2023.

It was really nice for office wear during work. But I find it hard to dress it down during the weekends pairing with T shirts and shorts. It is a smart looking watch.

At 43mm and sitting over 15mm on the wrist, it wears big and thick.

A very satisfying 1 year of owning my grail watch but I decided to let it go as I wanted a more versatile watch.

Sounds like you could have had a 2 watch collection - one for work and one for play

I have a friend who wears his all the time. Since we're in Malaysia that's t shirt and shorts a lot. Always looks good! Sorry if you feel differently but you must do what's right for you.

And is it my imagination or are we seeing a lot more posts about IWCs and fleigers in general recently?

Mark XX will fill that void. 10.8mm thick, 40mm, easxchange strap system so you can dress up with bracelet, casual leather, or sporty rubber in seconds.

Still prefer the dial of a pilot chrono

I'd definitely wear it casually on the canvas strap. What'd you buy after?

Yeah, I bought some casual straps for the iwc but it still didn’t feel right. It was traded in for an Omega 3861 hesalite

Then why not the Pilot chrono 41?

It was still as thick as the 43. As much as I like and want the watch in picture or in the showcase, the feeling of owning, wearability and suitability is totally different. If you know what I mean. Haha

For sure I know exactly what you mean. I had an omega aqua terra and loved every part of it BUT the thickness and having to clean it constantly from all the polished surfaces and it ultimately got to me and I sold it.

Really interested in your take on this piece. I don’t own the chrono but long-time owner of an IWC (Portuguese Chrono and Mark XX). For me, a chrono complication tends to make a watch look less dressy, which means they can be more versatile. I’ve looked at the 41mm chrono and spitfire chrono in the past - and thought they fit the bill for a GADA - with the limitation being about how far they dress up (rather than down). What was it when you’re in jeans and T shirt that made you feel it’s too dressy? What would you normally wear when dressing down at the weekend?

That’s a lot of watch dimensions wise “for me”, but I could have easily rocked it on a NATO with a T-shirt and shorts.

I guess due to living in a tropical island where it is sunny most days, i wear casually to t shirts and sports shorts. It would be appropriate with jeans. But my casual is almost like sports wear. Haha

Makes sense. I suppose a dive watch on a bracelet would be much better suited for daily wear.
