Giving Thanks

In the United States today is Thanksgiving. It's a day to spend with loved ones and reflect on what means most to us and to appreciate what we have.

I am thankful that all of my basic needs are easily met and I have a little extra money to indulge in frivolous hobbies that bring me joy, which include watch collecting.

To get to this stage in my life lots of obstacles had to be overcome. Some of the big ones were:

-Challenges in early school

-A slow start to my career after college

-The 2008 financial crisis when I was out of work for months and eventually had to choose between getting a hair cut and a suit dry cleaned for a big interview or groceries for the next month.

-2015 health issues that very nearly killed me and required multiple surgeries and a long period of recuperation.

Other than one heavy hitter my collection is pretty modest but it brings me joy. No matter which watch I am wearing I look down several times every day and think, "I love this watch and I'm lucky to have it."

Well said => "appreciate what we have"

It takes time to truly realize this.

Thank you for this.

Any watch one buys should be worn with pride and joy, whether it's a heavy hitter or not. Watches are never priority and every single one we acquire is a luxury that, ultimately, speaks to how far the wolves are from our doors. So, well done there.

I like your post. It's very grounded.
