Can a strap dictate a watch purchase?

I'll save a bit of the backstory for the of my comments for this post at the end. Up front here, when I imagined this pairing of the Seiko Prospex SBDC111 and Erika's Original MN Strap in "2 Tone", I knew I'd have to get them and see for myself on wrist someday... And, someday soon. I guess that time was started about mid last week. I have several other strap pairings to cycle through. But, I can see this being the "main look".

I date say I practically bought the watch to match the strap, instead of the other way around. I'm fairly certain others may have done similarly.

So, I've had the SBDC111 on my radar for a while. I love the green tones on this particular classic Seiko dive style watch. But, there was another factor that nudged me to get it finally. A while back, as I was browsing through Erika's Original MN Straps for some strap options for another watch, I noticed the Original color with the "2 Tone" option, as you see in these photos. I just thought that looks great with subdued green tones. I immediately thought that would be pretty awesome with the SBDC111. The envisioned  pairing accelerated my desire to have both and thus here's where I'm at.

Thanks. Me too

The Norqain Night Sight I picked up may fit the bill. I didn't get the watch strictly because of the strap but I wonder if I would have been as enthralled if I didn't love the pairing 🤔

Pretty cool pairing.

Great choice of watch and strap or should I say strap and watch. They pair together really well.

I would bet a number of us have traveled that same path. I know I have a number of times.

When I saw TGV with the Seiko Flightmaster and his NDC strap, I could not imagine wearing the Flighty any other way. The yellow chronograph hand and the yellow stripe - perfect!

When I saw Marc's Islander Racing Watch with Gulf livery - my mind immediately said buy that watch so you can put it on a Gulf colored NATO (I decided to go two-piece NATO to keep it flatter to the wrist):

I could keep going but I will do just one more. I saw the gorgeous custom straps made by Mansarea and I knew I needed to have them make a beautiful leather strap in the Gulf livery. But then I needed to find a watch to match.  Then I came across the Maurice De Mauriac Le Mans chronograph and I knew it had to be the one:

Fine examples. I could name a few more personal examples, too.

For sure sir…. But then I am an unabashed strap whore.
