I have what may seem a silly question, but there's a saying: "there's no stupid questions, but stupid people asking them"
Can a quartz watch magnetize a mechanical watch?
Is this possible?
From Puerto Rico🇵🇷. Looking forward to collecting watches. I'm new so any suggestions will be appreciated. More into classic, dress and diver type of watches. Also like casual and sporty if they add c...

Hmm, interesting. Put a compass next to it, see if it swings?
When you are talking about a mechanical watch being magnetized, it is in reference to the mainspring becoming magnetized and "sticking" to itself, so it does not un-wind in the same manner as before it was magnetized. It "shortens" the length of swing (Amplitude) and therefore makes it run faster. A quartz watch does not have this system inside it. I do not believe that it is possible for a quartz watch to become magnetized.
They can be, but how it affects them is… up in the air.
Mind you, watching one on a demagnetiser is great fun.
Exactly my question. I'm not asking if a quartz watch can become magnetized, but rather if it can magnetize a mechanical watch. Seems you answered my silly scientific question 😁
Install this app - Physics Toolbox Magnetometer - on your phone (from the Google Play store here) and put your phone next to a quartz watch:
It will tell you if there's any magnetism. Very cool app, I use it.
