Titanium full metal G-shock mod kit review

After seeing the MR-G full titanium I was smitten, so a full titanium case and bracelet for £75 seemed like the ultimate mod for my 5610.

Purchased from AliExpress it arrived after a few weeks in a nice box which also included some screwdrivers and a spring bar tool.

No instructions, but a quick YouTube search provides step by step guidance, which is so easy. It only took around 10mins from start to finish including resizing the bracelet.

Good points:

Super light weight 92g (49g on original rubber).

Tools included

New black screws were a nice touch.

Looks amazing! Absolutely amazing.

Bad points:

Bracelet is super jangly, not in a good way. Black coating is ultra thin, so I can see it looking pretty beat up very quickly.

The new case doesn’t conform to the wrist as much as the rubber around the lugs so anyone with under a 6.5 inch wrist will find a lot more overhang.

Large gaps between the bracelet links that traps hairs.

The quick release spring bars sit so proud of the case they dig into my wrist and create sores.

Sharp edges on the links and clasp.

The bracelet links are held together with spring bars that are not very well machined. One failed and the watch dropped off my wrist while wearing it around the house.

Loss of some shock resistance.

Modding the mod:

I’ve been through the spring bars in the links and replaced any that aren’t long enough. (Having to remove a few links for resizing meant I had a few spare). I’ve also replaced the quick release spring bars with regular ones. (Thankfully I had spare ones as originals from rubber case don’t fit)

So, in summary, now I’m left with a watch mod that looks absolutely stunning and I mean stunning! But crucially, it feels a bit rubbish. A bit fragile.

Would I recommend it? Hmmm…. no, not really. Your wrist has to be the right shape and you have to be prepared to modify the kit if needed.

It is literally ALL about the looks rather than performance. But, if you do decide to pull the trigger on one, probably best to go for the regular metal rather than black coated one, as hopefully it won’t scratch up as much.

Update on this review.

Having changed the spring bars and worn it a lot over the last few months I’ve had no further issues. Plus the black coating has held up extremely well, not a mark or scratch on it.

So i would up the overall score to 3 out of 5. It’s not perfect, but better than I originally thought.
