Speedmaster 38mm

Hello WatchCrunch community. What are your thoughts on the Speedmaster 38mm? Does anyone have or had one? I’ve been wanting to buy a Speedmaster and my wrist is small, so I’ve been considering this one.

It’s my favorite Speedmaster, and one I’d consider, for sure. I prefer the slimmer tachymeter scale, the fun colors - baby blue and the navy Orbis edition - are awesome, being an automatic is great, and the 100m water resistance is really nice. To me, it’s the most daily-able Speedy.

Downside? It has a few:

  • it’s proportionally thick. No getting around that.

  • The movement is not metas certified like almost every other Omega

  • It hasn’t been updated in a while and feels due for one.

Go try it on and see what you think!

I just bought a 39mm Speedmaster from 1999 in December and I love it! Small wristed guy here as well

I have the reduced and it sits perfectly on my wrist 👍🏼

I have owned the speedmaster reduced and I had trouble reading it when used for timing functions. I have a large wrist and prefer the full sized. JMO enjoy the hobby

I have the grey dial variant, it fits my 6.75in wrist perfectly. It's a great watch

I think many people mistake the 39mm reduced for this new 38mm variant. They have virtually no relation to each other besides the words on the dial.

The older 39mm Speedy reduced was a perfectly sized, perfectly proportioned, dare I say vintage feeling watch.

This new model is short and thick. It’s side profile is more macaroon than wristwatch. I asked my AD to bring one in for me to try but I balked when I saw it’s actual proportions on my wrist.

I tried it on a few weeks ago at the Omega Boutique on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and struggled to button my shirt cuff.

Damned near popped the button off.

It looks nice, though.
