Vintage watches

I’ve been thinking about getting a vintage 2 hand Universal Geneva as my next watch. I’m wondering if people can share their vintage experiences and recommend reputable dealers or sellers somewhere.

I have a few vintage pieces and the name of the game is information. The more information you have on the piece the better it is for you to make decisions. The last service history if there is one is good to know. Comparing prices on ebay and chrono24 to know about what you should be expecting is helpful in navigating price. Good quality pictures of the piece to actually see the condition you're getting is helpful too.

One thing I’ve heard is always get a picture of the movement.

That's true too. Though sometimes you may not be able to get a photo of the movement. It's a bit of a mine field but there is def "if it's too good to be true, it probably is." Lots of fake or Frankenstein watches will have have a branding you recognize but hands are wrong or dials are weird and usually sell under something like "rare vintage seiko" and only cost 50 bucks. If your intuition tells you it's fishy, it probably is.

That’s what scares me as I wouldn’t be able to identify if the hands were wrong or if the movement didn’t match the model year.
