What’s So Great About Nomos? (Seriously, I want to know).

I have nothing against Nomos, I’ve just never looked at one in real life or held one. I see and hear people praising them for their watches, but they seem a little over priced and minimalistic to me.

My thoughts have been pretty negative towards them until I saw a post about the club sport neomatik with 200m of water resistance. It looks really cool, but at close to $4,000, I don’t necessarily see the appeal. What do you guys like about the brand?

Like anything else, watches and what one constitutes value is subjective. I have 3 Nomos (Club, my wife’s Club Campus, and Tangente) in the collection. Yes, the design is simplistic, but I view it as being refined. It knows what it is and sticks to it. The other part of it is you should handle one and put it on. At a meetup yesterday I was talking to another enthusiast about Nomos having the feel of a German car. There is a heft and immeasurable tactility when closing a German car door that conveys quality. Solid like a bank vault. It’s a similar feeling with the watch. It’s small and relatively thing (sub-9mm) but there’s a weight/density to watch.

It’s a Purists’ watch brand. Self contained in house movements, distinctive bauhaus design language, independent design and manufacturing. All done from a business that is about 25 years old. They do what they do on their own, and they do to well.

The lug to lug width is what is keeping me from getting one. They stick out a bit too much for me.

Great watches with mediocre bracelets. I love the slender lugs and longer L2L distances that most people don’t care for but I’m probably an odd ball.

This is accurate. I have a 6.5” wrist and wear 36mm Nomos. The lugs make the watch wear bigger.

Good to know about the bracelets. I only have mine on leather.

The Bauhaus style makes one look like they know what is important.

Mostly in-house movement cost 4000. I have Oris Kermit and Nomos Metro Update. I like Kermit more because it run -2 spd, Nomos run +10 spd

Totally agree - they leave me cold and I can’t see why reviewers go crazy for them ?
