I think you are just a tad too easily pleased. The IIII thing is pretty much standard across the board in watches and clocks. More noteworthy is that cutting off the 3 digit for the date window did not do much damage.

I love Roman IVs. The good thing about FC is that they offer a choice.
They have models like yours, models with a IV like this
and models with neither like this
