Am I the only one who really just wants a G Shock with large time, small date, and nothing else? This is as close as they get, but the date is still almost as big as the time. Why is that? And what the heck is the bar graph about and why would it be so important you’d want the time smaller to accommodate it?

The bar graph is a tide indicator and the small circle next to it is a moon phase indicator. You might want to check out the GW-M5610U or the classic DW-5600 if you don't like all these additional features and want a more simple watch.

I have a 5600 and like it a lot. What I like about these newer watches is the display looks better. So basically, I want a 5600 with a brighter, easier to read display.

This one was released in 2012 so it has a regular display and it definitely is not going to be easier to read since it is a negative one. Well, if you want one with the new MIP displays assuming that those are the ones that you meant, then the GBX-100 could work very well with it's ability to show a tide graph but also a very simple dial with big digits on the time and a decently small date.

And there is also the DW-H5600 which is literally just a 5600 with the new display
