Exciton II Watch by J&G

It’s finally here, the Exciton II Watch by J&G!  This watch is from a Kickstarter project I backed in July 2021.  J&G is a collaboration between a scientist, James, and a YouTube watch reviewer, Gary from I Like Watches.

This is the second version of an initial run of 100 Exciton watches.  Full details & specs can be found on Kickstarter.

Now that I finally have it in hand, it’s exceeded my expectations and well worth the wait, 9 months worth…

This was the first Kickstarter project I backed and may not be the last.

Have you backed any Kickstarter projects?  How did it turn out?  Any current Kickstarter projects you’re looking at?

Not a fan of KS.

I'm old school and like to buy watches that already exist.

Good point!  I would typically agree with you.  In this case, there was already a run of 100 Exciton watches J&G made that sold out by viewers of Gary's Youtube channel.  This success prompted them to make a Exciton II and launch it on Kickstarter.  Thus, I felt reassured what this watch would be like and how successful it would be on Kickstarter.

To each his own and enjoy your watch.

But a watch created by a "scientist" and a YT dude isn't on my search list. Too many KS projects are started by a couple of guys who fancy themselves as horological trendsetters, have a few bucks of their own, and appeal to (or try to ) newer watch enthusiasts. Seldom have I seen a KS offering that isn't already available, and usually better.

Case in point.

This watch  desperately needs a chapter ring showing the minutes. Showing the minutes only on the bezel makes it look incomplete and like a collaboration between a scientist and a YT reviewer.

But again- Chacon a son gout.

^This.  I enjoy Gary’s videos and I generally liked the design of the Exciton II, but the missing minute indicators on the dial are a ‘no’ for me.
