WatchCharts - Reddit r/watchexchange help

Hi all,

Newbie question for my ’crunch family who are WatchCharts users.
..I am still figuring out the system.

I’m interested buying a watch on the ‘charts.  The WatchCharts ad links to watchexchange on Reddit.  Poster has no sales feedback, but many years of posts and good karma.  Poster has followed all rules correctly in his add for the watch.   But zero previous sales is slightly concerning.  Mind you, if I posted there I’d have zero sales feedback as well!

Anybody here a WatchCharts user and or watchexchange user on Reddit that can offer some insights?

Thank you!

I think the rule is to buy the seller.  If you're comfortable, you should be fine.  I've bought and sold through Reddit a few times with seamless transactions.

I've done a number of buys and sales under a different user name on watchexchange.     You really need to buy the seller.  This becomes far more important the higher the price.    Be sure to check the sellers profile.

Sometimes a seller on WatchEx will have better feedback on another forum or ebay.  In those cases, I've asked them to send me a message from that account.    Also, prefer transactions paying by papal G&S.    Not bullet proof, but you don't want to use F&F which the forum does not recommend.

Also, try to consider how much you are saving with a private sell vs preowned from an AD who will likely have a return policy and higher probability of standing by the product.

That said I've yet to have a single issue on WatchExchange; however, the max I've used it for is probably around the $1000 to $1500 range.   Anything higher I tend to go new or preowned with a retailer.     When I'm selling anything higher, I typically use ebay.   Fees are higher, but have preferred it when I sold a few pieces at higher price levels.

Thanks Sasq!
Yes, it’s kinda obvious I know, but never having done it I wanted to poll community just in case

Awesome info Chase!  Cheers 🍻 I’ll try chatting with him first and see if there’s other metrics to assess history.  And yes, dealer option is a few hundred more-  but perhaps well worth it
