Watch packaging / delivery

My San Martin arrived in this nice looking green container. Most other Aliexpress purchases arrived in one of the generic black plastic foam lined cases.

Whilst the San Martin case is a cut above the others, ultimately it's just another piece of packaging, that has no other use. At least the other type can be repurposed, until I have too many. I'd prefer something recyclable.

I've observed that high end watches appear to have more value with their original boxes and papers, but this isn't high end. So it's just something else reluctantly at some future point, destined for the landfill site. I've had other watches arrive in cardboard presentation boxes wrapped in bubble wrap, which I prefer, as they can be recycled.

What are your thoughts?

Agreed.

Arken, Elliot Brown, Maratac, Wolbrook, Helm, Lorier, Nodus, and HVD are the only brands so far who I think have done a great job with packaging.

All of the afore mentioned have included simple cardboard sleeves/boxes with protection, and a little travel pouch for one watch. Or a zipper style padded travel type case with the ability to store a tool, manual, and either an extra watch or a bracelet.

I don't keep the "papers", OG boxes, etc. If I resell, they are listed as a watch only, no papers on eBay. Not that it matters since they aren't "luxury" 😂.

Agree, I get that luxury watch brands want to impress, but I'd be perfectly happy if Omega (or whoever) switched to cardboard boxes. Fancy packaging is just a pain to store.

And at additional cost, both in production and transport

Exactly. I want my money to go on what I'm wearing, not what's chucked in the back of the wardrobe 👍👍
