Panerai advice / thoughts

Hello Crunchers, I would like to hear your thoughts:

Panerai has been under my radar for a while and I am almost ready to start my hunt in the preowned market

I really like the Luminor 1950 model, specially the reference 1312 (44mm) or 1292 / 2392 (42mm) with the light blue, small seconds hand.

I have a 7.5 wrist size but I don’t know how a 44mm is going to fit me in the long run. Specially because Panerai are just big / chunky watches and this is their style and you have to accept it. Otherwise, this brand is not for you.

The 42mm does not have the 9 on the dial and I feel is just missing something. However, if you look at the separately they look very nice.

Please share with me your thoughts. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

You’ll be fine with a 44mm watch for your wrist size.

Mines 6 3/4 and I used to wear a 44mm base (560) daily for 2yrs. 50mm lug 2 lug is the most I can do.

This Luminor Quaranta Steel DLC Luna Rossa 40mm begs to disagree :)

But looks like you can pull of the 44mm as well, looks fine 👍🏻

The Luminor Quaranta is very interesting design. The only thing that I don’t like is that it doesn’t have open caseback I believe 🤔

I am a sucker for the open case back. Not all my watches have it. The Panerai I own does not have it in fact but I do tend to gravitate to watches with that extra design feature.

I agree that you’ll be fine with 44mm. I have smaller than 7” wrist and the biggest I’ll go is 44mm. In my opinion go with the bigger one. The general rule of thumb is the lugs should not overhang either side of your wrist which in the picture you’re good. I’ve personally broken that rule. At the end of the day you should wear the watch that you want and forget what others say. Plus it is fashionable in many parts of the world to wear XL watches. With that said 44mm isn’t really considered an XL watch. When you get into the 46+ size is when you are getting XL watches but who cares. Go with whatever makes you happy.

I completely agree with you on open case back. This is why I am considering to buy my Panerai in the preowned market. Since the current model doesn’t have open case back. Also, this watch is not worth to buy it new.
