The Nixon 51-30 Tide Mismatch

I thought I’d share this purchase because I’m a sucker for odd, colorful and whacky timepieces. Also, thanks to my Shrek sized wrists I can usually pull off wearing large watches. I may have met my match on this one.

I found this on a charity auction site and won the bid. I’ve never owned a Nixon watch and was curious about what I consider to be a fashion brand.

A bit of research on this “51-30 Tide” series showed this model does not have a seconds hand but instead has a high/low tide indicator. The quartz movement is Swiss and meant for surfers, has 300m of water resistance. This ultra colorful “Mismatch” model is apparently quite rare as I could find almost no documentation for it.

A cool feature besides the left sided two crown configuration which at 51mm across and 61mm lug to lug is almost a necessity if wearing on your left wrist, has screw locked 24mm strap bars to prevent watch loss should one experience a massive whipe out.

It came without it’s stock bracelet so I put it on a blue 300mm NATO brand strap.

I was just too cool (IMHO) to pass up. Probably just a hair to big for regular wear, I may end up offering it for sale at some point soon.

It’s truly a whacky piece.

Niiiiice. I have a couple Nixons. A "The Unit: That's what she said", and a "Rover: Wanderlust". The Rover is small-ish but pretty cool and "The Unit" is just big fun.

Love them. Nixon was made by surfers for the surfing community in California and that was a few years back lol.
