Today's choice is from the Junior Varsity drawer in the old watch box. A 1957 Bulova 23-jewel automatic, I picked this up over twenty years ago to represent the epitaph of the once-great American mechanical watch industry. 30mm. I BELIEVE the Bulova 10BPAC inside is the only American automatic movement designed and manufactured in the US. Do any of you watch nerds know any more about this topic? I believe Hamilton introduced one before it was purchased by the Swiss, but I think most of the design was done in Europe. I picked this model as I dig the case and dial. Christopher Ward may crow about their "light–catcher™" case, but as much as I like CW, I think this model trumps them on lightplay, from the deeply-etched sunburst dial, to the scalloped case, horned lugs and faceted applied markers, this baby just RADIATES. Sorry for the crap pics - this watch really should be photographed in natural light or with some more serious gear than a cell phone, but it's a wintry mix day here in the Jura and I'm too lazy to get out my camera stuff ;)
