When the no-date challenge hits a speed bump

It’s the third day of my self inflicted no-date challenge week and I’m already struggling. Naturally its not because there is anything wrong with no-date watches, they are fine really. The problem is with my tendency to be unreliable, dishonest, and always looking for an angle with which rules of the game can bend.

This time it’s because I decided that no-date complication doesn’t mean no complication at all, and I picked the Mathey-Tissot Type XX chronograph.

It’s a great watch to wear. It’s also my only hand wound watch and maybe this lack of automation is acting to balance the fact that it’s really stretching the definitions of an uncomplicated watch. The Type XX is a classic mechanical chronograph without a date complication and it manage to keep its diameter to under 40mm, which is more important for me than the presence of a date window or the lack of it.

Wait - did you set the bezel to 1 to track the date?? Cheating!

No I didn't and it would only help me for a few days at the most since it's a 12hr bezel.

But I like the way you think.

You can also set the chronograph seconds hand to the date corresponding with the minute track!
