Playing with backgrounds and reflections on the Nomos Ahoi

Today I decided that instead of battling the elements and freezing my hands outside, I'll have some fun inside with the Nomos Ahoi and its happy dial.

The case of the Nomos is really simple when you think about it, it's just a slice of highly polished steel cylinder with crab's legs for lugs and no real bezel or any other decoration that may detract the eye from the bright orange dial.

It's the mirror finish of the case and its cylindrical shape that gave me the idea to experiment with catching how various backdrops reflects from its surface and highlight the dial.

The first shots didn't go very well because I forgot that the mirror like surface of the case is also very good at catching and reflecting fingerprints.

Wiping the incriminating evidences and using the cloth as a background did produce some contrast with the dial but a very underwhelming reflection effect.

Laying the Ahoi on the keyboard produced a very nice reflection from the illuminated keys and the Canon G12 was still able to catch the vivid dial against this background.

I tried other textures and colors but under the lights I have in the study the keyboard was a clear winner.

Just reading up on #germanwatches topics articles, and this combo of the clean #nomos dial, the orange, and the leather suede strap is exquisite. 👌 😎 I hope one day to get an Orion or Tangente, and join the club. Cheers! 🍻
