Hand Painting Watch Dials

I have a relatively cheap watch (Timex Essex Ave) and was hoping to go to a watch maker to take off the dial and get it hand painted by a freind. I was wondering what would be the average cost of removing the dial and then replacing it and if it would be ok to actually paint?

Thanks

For a relatively inexpensive watch wuch as this that you're already looking at having modded, why not consider doing the work yourself?

With a quartz movement such as this especially, just need a $5 caseback tool and a springbar tool that you probably already have, and you'd be shocked at how easy it is to take these apart.

Depending on the painting you'd like to have done you may not need to remove the dial from the movement, and just take the movement holder and all out of the case. That's the simplest way forward. It's also not hard to remove the dial fully. It would just require a few more tools to remove and replace the hands and take the dial off the movement.

Food for thought!

Would love to see it when it’s done. I’m adding some custom art to some dials myself

That’s a great idea!

Thank you for this information, would you be able to recommend a cheap case back tool and springbar tool?

One of the "watch repair kits" from AliExpress or Amazon will have everything you need (and likely more) for around the $10-15 mark, give or take. I'd start there. Then you're also set up to size bracelets, change batteries, etc, in the future.

Enjoy!
