The “first watch of the collection”

I am a recently reformed “one watch guy.”

And this is the watch that saved me. About 2 years ago, I, like many a foolish young man, purchased a submariner (still among the best one watch collections), and declared myself a one watch guy. I’ll admire the rest of the horological world, but this is all I need - I mean, I can wear it at the pool, with a suit, or anything in between! Certainly this hobby of passion ought to find its conclusion in such practicality.

Of course, as all foolishness must, this attitude collided with reality when one Saturday morning about a month ago, I woke up with not an ounce of desire to don the watch I wore in the office every day for my weekend.

And so it was that need for a watch more suited to a day spent unsuited - a rugged watch, dare I say a Colorado watch - that saved a “one watch guy,” and made a collector. You might notice that I’ve honored this watch’s service by appending 00111 to my Watch Crunch username, as the account formation followed closely after I abandoned the one watch guy days of yore.

I’ve made 3 other acquisitions since then that I think will be long term pieces in my collection (and 4-5 that will not!), and I’ll be making posts on each of them (the 3) as well, because I hear UFOs are real now, and the universe needs to know about my watch journey!

On the PAM00111 itself - if you watch Federico on YouTube, you know that this is a phenomenal piece. The PAM One Eleven. Panerai of late has somewhat abandoned its brand DNA (though they have recovered this somewhat from their initial missteps), and is now making somewhat crazy concepts such as gold moonphase luminors - presumably issued to only the best Italian frogmen. But this piece is before all that. Sandwich dial of course, because a Panerai ought to be a Panerai, but no hate to any folks who prefer the sausage dial. Without you, this piece would be even rarer than it already is.

I’m happy to answer any questions on the piece to the extent helpful, though I doubt anyone has persevered through my stream of consciousness to this point, and look forward to inflicting more journal entries on the dear reader in the future..
