Because some people have lost all perspective when it comes to the value of money, e.g. when a £17,000 watch doesn't seem so bad compared to a £26,000 watch but both are options. In the real world, paying £100 for a G-Shock isn't worth it when you can get the same look and most of the functions for £5 instead, especially when you know you'll be bored with it in a few weeks and buying something else anyway (whether you had bought the real G-Shock or not).
It really upsets watch snobs, anti-homagers, and people who don't understand that there is no copyright on watches except for brand names and certain patents which have often expired.
Sometimes (although rarely) the functions and builds exceed that of the original design, but it's always for a fraction of the price of the more famous brands.
Regional variations and import duties sometimes mean that watches which are cheap in one country are often priced beyond the reach of the same class of people who would usually buy those watches in a different country, but a different brand can fill that price point.
It just generally annoys serious watch people, and for that reason alone, it is absolutely glorious! 😜
Well said brother. I can boil it down even more:
Because the wirst watch is basically the handbag 👝 and shoes 👠 for men. Today it’s more fashion and luxury more than practical and play entirely on EGO.
Because the modern watch industry is TOTALLY full of shit. Playing consumers on point #1
Real watch aficionados know that it’s fun to wear all forms, colors, and styles of watches depending on the mood of the day. At multiple price points —The more affordable, the better.
And as I discovered, to drop a particular into a generalisation, the Skmei 1660 is in every way a better watch than the Casio A700 which it looks like, and is one-eighth of the price!

Looks just like a G Shock
Looks just like a G Shock
Indeed.
This one looks like a vintage radio console.
51mm case. 24mm lug width.
Subtle.😃
What's the attraction to this stuff?? They make homages to watches that are already inexpensive.
Hard pass.
Get that SKMEI fever for less than the price of a Caramel Frappuccino at Starbucks!!
To be subversive and anti-establishment.
