I've had this Seiko quartz(!) office GMT, Seiko Sportura Monster GMT (SLT043P1) for over a year now. I got it just before Seiko launched their automatic office GMT movement in their 5KX lineup.
Lately I've been thinking about buying an automatic GMT, so I started to do some research.
I have learned there are two types of GMT, the office GMT and the travel - or sometimes even called true - GMT. On the first you can quickly adjust the 24 hour hand. However, on the second you can quickly independently adjust the local time.
Now I was wondering if a travel GMT is really worth saving up for, or if an office version is "just as good" or if maybe I need neither since I have this quartz version. Besides that I also have a Citizen Eco-Drive world timer, and of course some G-shocks that have world time as well. Last but not least I have the Casio Illuminator, AE-1200WHD-1AVDF, aka Casio Royale.
Also, I have "modded" my Boctok Komandirskie and equipped it with a 24 hour bezel which now allows me to track a second time-zone.
I hope all of it still makes sense, please help!

Depends on you and your needs pretty much. They both have their own utility. I have both and don’t really prefer one over the other for most situations. But if you do travel a lot then the traveler style really does edge out the callers on ease of use. But the Ae-1200 or similar watches are amazingly versatile.
If it is a watch that is likely to need to be set regularly get the caller gmt, if it is a watch that will be worn most of the time then do you travel to other time zones more than 6 times a year. The question basically is which will you need to do more often, set the date or set the time. My automatic gmt is a caller but my kinetic gmt is a traveller.
office is good 👍, been testing this airman for a few places with different timezone and proved to be useful once we get used to.
A third option exists though admittedly it isn't for everyone...

Thanks for taking the time to reply!
Between my G-shocks, my Eco-Drive world timer, my quartz GMT, and my modded Boctok Komandirskie 24H, my needs are pretty much met.
Yet I have this "geeky need" to own an automatic GMT, I'm weird like that. It's sort of like this itch I need to scratch. So , maybe I posted the wrong question...sorry for that 😕
I guess my question should have been: how noticeable is the difference between an automatic office GMT and an automatic travel GMT, and is it worth the price-difference?
And you did a great job answering, so thanks for that!

I'd probably have it in rotation and put it in a winder for ease of use. And no, I don't travel that much to other time zones; definitely not more than the six times you mentioned.
Based on this, do you have any recommendations? I've always had a soft spot for the Glycine Airman...
I actually "modded" my Boctok Komandirskie and equipped it with a 24 hour bezel, to mimic the Glycine, which now allows me to track a second time-zone. But setting the date after not using it for a while is a bit of a pain...

I have "modded" my Boctok Komandirskie - with 24 hour scale dial - and equipped it with a 24 hour bezel which now allows me to track a second time-zone.

If it will go on a winder either will work. Give some info on wrist size, preferred watch size/style and I'm sure we can come up with some ideas. If you like the glycine what is stopping you getting it (price/size?) Yema might be a brand to look into.

Wrist size 7 inch, and case size doesn't really matter that much. There's a large variety of styles I like. The problem I have with getting many watches is that they're not available here in Jakarta and for import I would have to pay a premium...
