Asterisk Watches

I received my Asterisk Watches Channel Islands Jump Hour Automatic last week, a kickstarter I had been very excited about.

When I first received it, it was very snowy here and i quickly realized it was hard to read. Today is sunny however and it looks better. I will say that the production dial is less contrasty than the kickstarter campaign photos. And indoors and on gray days the watch is very difficult to read.

I expected more from this watch because the company founders also founded Xeric and they have a good deal of experience releasing watches. The hour window is very hard to read, though. It needs more contrast. It looks like the goal was to make it blend in for aesthetic reasons, but I think that was a bad choice, really. Mr. Jones watches have figured this out over time but it’s not looking like Asterisk considered it here.

In the end I guess I’ll keep it. I like that someone is trying to make more “fun” watches. But I do hope they improve legibility in future pieces.

Since the same people have a decade of experience with Kickstarter and watchmaking via their Xeric brand, I had higher hopes.
