Watches are extra cheap on Gran Canaria & a strange true story

Mainly because tourists go there mainly for the beaches and there was tons of watch shops... So the import companies sold watches just about factory prices and you could then find the watch you wanted at almost "cost price" in some shop... And that price was lower than anywhere else in the world...

So I could for example buy my first Grail or dream watch (in my photo) for only 591 sek (about 52 euro) 1993 when it did cost 1695 sek in Sweden...

But that was 30 years ago and then came a low town tax, many shops did finally give up and now have about 75% of the shops closed... But watches are still extra cheap on Gran Canaria, even with the fix prices in the big department store...

And I did just answer the question "Amazing Mind-Blowing Facts: What is the most unlikely story that is actually true?" in Quora...

El Corte Ingles is a huge and very elegant department store in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria... And Las Palmas is the main city of Gran Canaria, with a long lovely beach that several thousand people enjoy when its sunny, which it is almost ever day and that is very important for this crazy story...

The magnificent El Corte Ingles have almost everything and also a lot of everything... Like 40 different sofas, over thousand different wristwatches and around 500 different beach shoes... But how many different beach towels do you guess they have?? The lovely young lady who took me there, when I couldn’t find them, got almost as surprised as I was, when she saw that there was only six!?!

Which prove that it’s easy to become “home blind” even for the most magnificent department store!
