Xonix, anyone?

I have my gripes with the design of digital watches, especially their dials. There are some Loruses I don't hate, very few Casios, a few Timexes, and some Nixons - the latter appear rather pricy for what they are.

AliExpress has its fair share of butt-ugly digital watch models (brands) too, some dirt cheap watches that look ok by Synoke, others that look ok by Sanda and Skmei, and then there is Xonix.

Xonix watches are priced a bit higher, around £20 (on Ali - on ebay you pay double that), and seem to use Japanese quartz movements. I generally like their designs. But what's their build quality? Has anybody around here had any experience with the brand?

A small note: they are not a mushroom brand that has sprung to life in the last couple of years. They claim they have been around as a consumer electronics manufacturer since 1978. I saw a dedicated Xonix shop on AliExpress that has been around since 2013 - which is an eternity by AliExpress standards.

Interesting.

I've not tried them. Any YouTube reviews?

My skmei are similar in quality to my Casio watches, maybe a slightly lower water resistance but they are just as accurate and user friendly.

Barely. There is a 6-year-old review of one of their models, which is the first review of this reviewer. That reviewer had some issues that probably no longer apply, e.g. flimsy packaging (they probably learned that lesson by now, judging from my Ali experience), no manual: there are downloadable manuals on Xonix's website as well as manuals on some AliExpress listings.

Other than that review, there is an unboxing video, and some corporate videos. So, slim pickings in terms of reviews.

Well, Xonix and Skmei are different brands. China is a big country, not all watchbrands from over there are the same. Pricewise, Xonixes seem to cost more than Skmei, I'd say about double on average.

I own a Skmei myself, which was modelled after a Casio, but it has a countdown timer which its lookalike lacks. On the downside, the LCD display of that Skmei becomes unreadable at an angle, whilst the Casio is more tilt-friendly. The mad watch collector did a video review of a Skmei G-shock homage, to demonstrate to noone's surprise that the Skmei was not as tough as a G-shock.

On the homage front, there are some models by Xonix that copy Casio designs, some resemble Loruses. Not sure about the prevalence (or lack thereof) of original design across their range.

Interesting, I've never even heard of Xonix. I'll have to check them out!
