An excellent alternative sports steel watch to the usual suspects

Review of Lang & Heyne Hektor Sporty-Elegant Steel Watch

A contemporary design with classic German Saxon watchmaking DNAs

watchcollecting.substack.com

A very happy Easter Sunday, everyone!  I am very eager to share this recent acquisition with you, the Hektor, a sporty steel watch from Lang & Heyne. It was released last Oct in a 99 LE with 33 in either blue, gray or green. I received it recently after a 6-month wait. The movement is made by UWD and similar to the one used in the Infinity Series by JN Shapiro. The difference is the seconds hand that is now at the center. It is manual wind, unusual for a sports watch with integrated bracelet, but I enjoy the daily winding and unblocked view of the movement. Lang and Heyne are working on new Hektor models that will come out 2022/23. As with any of my new acquisition, I  did tons of research and put them in a review. Hope that you will enjoy reading it.

I have been quite unaware of this brand before this, but I have to be impressed - real watchmaking at a price point that seems almost unfathomable. Nice job picking yours up - right place at the right time is always so satisfying.

That movement looks like a mechanical wonder. Beautiful dial as well. Glad to hear that you are enjoying it. Does it keep good time?

Thank you so much for your kind words!  I agree with you totally that right place at the right time is always so satisfying.  I may need to go to NYC more  - I saw that you are in NYC - there are just so many watch stores and boutiques!

Thanks for asking as I love taking measurements of timing errors, especially for new watches. I'm using an iOS app called "WatchTracker" which lets me record timing data a few times a day.  The result comes out to be +2.1 sec/day for this watch measured over 10 days.  I could not find the spec from the official site and I was quite happy with this timing result.

OMG, that is amazing!

Gorgeous dial! Am I correct that the watch case is fully polished, and on the bracelet the outer and middle links are polished and the other two are brushed? Apologies, it’s a little hard to tell.

Yeah, there's really nothing else like it. I haven't done what I call the "midtown stroll" in about three years since the pandemic began, but I've been getting the urge to do another one very soon.

Hope that you will find time to do that soon!

You are all correct!  Here is another picture of the bracelet.  I was told that the case and bracelet are made by supplier in Switzerland.  I read somewhere that the bracelet of Lange Odysseus is made in Italy.  Thanks!
