Problem?

At which point does this become a problem?

I have ‘a number of watches’, aquired over the years… starting with a a grown up dress type watch that I remember shopping for with my mum and nan when I turned 18… through the impulse Storm watch bought at the start of a boozy night out in London because my mate was late turning up and I had some time to kill… the red LED fashion watch I wore on my wedding day… all the way through to the G-Shocks that have become a bit of an obsession in the last year or two (as shown in the picture, I have had to get them their own box!).

Question is, do I have a problem? Like the guitars I have - I have way too many to use at any one time.

But - they all mean something. None are high end but they all have a memory or an event that they are a part of. Well, most of them anyway. I’ll admit, the Casio Gs are mostly just because I like the look and the history of the brand.

And I find myself wearing the same few all the time. The older ones in particular haven’t told time or been on wrist in literally years, but for sentimentality’s sake, I keep them. (with that in mind, any advice about keeping them in best condition if stored and not running, is much appreciated).

I think I’ve answered my own question. But am just curious… how many is too many? How many is just enough? In guitar circles, the answer to that would be ‘one more than you already have’.

Thanks for reading this far!

Similar here. Accrued affordable watches over the years. Recently got ‘em all running and started to catalog their stories. And bought a few nicer ones recently, but still modest cost. I have a box that displays a dozen and a few more in its drawer. As I get newer nicer ones I’ll rotate the display and may eventually discard some of the relics.

FWIW - Since I’ve been cataloging ‘em anyway, I may start posting individual watches and stories here. (I have a virtually unseen blog, but figure folks here might appreciate it more.)

E.g., 1980’s Vostok Komandirskie purchased by my in-laws from a peddler in Red Square in 1999… 🤔

Personally, I like the stories. You should tell them!

Hi @NotThatNeil

I like that idea. There’s a book or a blog in the stories our watches can tell for sure.

Only problem is that you need more slots in your watch box. Carry on.👍
