Gorben Pocket Watch

An oddly shaped Gorben manual pocket watch in stainless steel silver case. Not really the Watch Crunch topic, but it's a watch, isn't it? 😁This was actually one of my first bought watches, a third one, to be precise. The first two were a rose gold cased black dial Orient Automatic and a gold-plated Royal London pocket watch

Wow, that caseback is gorgeous! What a nice piece. Thank you for showing it.

Clearly not the priciest case manufacturing but it is amazing the amount of decoration and good detail that can be done for a reasonable price.

I think you mean manual or hand wind, not automatic? I don't see a view-blocking rotor and swinging doesn't really work for pocket watches anyway. The first automatic watch was some up-and-down affair for a pocket watch, as that's how pocketed items move while walking.

So you can actually see something besides the hairspring and balance wheel move when winding? That justifies the exhibition case back. They were smart to make this mainly round with cushion-y ears toward the center so that corners are recessed.

The hands appear luminous, which is unusual for a pocket watch. Is it just the hands or is there hidden glow paint elsewhere?

Yeah, it's a manual, not auto😅And yes, it has some lime on the hands (but not anywhere else), but it doesn't last very long. As for the case back, you can see the parts and wheels moving while you wind it up and during normal operation. It has a power reserve of around 70 hours. It's priced at around 15$, so it's really cheap for a mechanical watch. I replaced the pocket chain since I took these pics for a sturdier and longer one

Wow. I knew it wasn't luxury level but this makes my $8.88 Walmart quartz pocket watch seem like much less of a screaming bargain. I didn't think you could get a manual pocket watch for under ~$35. And as I said, the level of embellishment is amazing for the price.
