Buying Rolex from Boutique/AD in Japan

They don’t have a waiting list in Japan. Not that they have every model for you to take away of course. They just don’t have the system of waiting list.

(It may exist for special customers like celebrities and extremely rich but it’s nonexistent for ordinary customers like me.)

So how do you buy one, then?

You just visit them until they have one. Yes, seriously. We call it “Rolex Marathon” 🏃😂

I’ve probably visited boutiques 5 times in the past year and yesterday I bought Explorer II.

They didn’t ask any question other than “what are you interested in?”

I have no purchase history. They wouldn’t know even if I had.

I was wearing Omega SMP300m on my wrist…. how stupid of me😅

So it is pure luck😉

When you buy one you can’t buy the same model for 5 years and many of other sports models for 1 year, “to be fair”, they say.

If you ever visit Japan you may want to try your luck too😊

One thing to remember is to be very specific on what you want. If you say, “Daytona or Sub or Explorer”, they will likely see you as a flipper and not sell to you. I don’t have a proof though as Explorer II was the only thing I wanted.

Big question I don’t have an answer to is if they do the same to visitors. Does anyone know?

In which AD have you bought your Rolex? I’ve visited the one at Takashimaya in Shinjuku a couple of times, no luck

Thanks! Good thing I’m out for the weekend, otherwise I’d be already there 😬

Is there normally a long queue to get in?
