Junkers 6060-5 "Bauhaus" Review

Since posting my SOTC a couple of weeks ago, I have been wanting to review my watches here in WC. This is obviously supposed to be review for all those interested in a specific watch, but also a way for me to document my collection for myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

I will be going in chronological order, oldest in the collection to newest. Since this is my first review, feel free to drop me a message if there is any information or pictures you'd like to see added in the future.

So let's get into my first watch: my Junkers 5050-6 Bauhaus.

Date of Purchase:ย 03.06.2018

History:ย When I started building my first collection in 2013, I had already been a fan of Junkers watches. I had owned some quartz models and really enjoyed the good build, nice design and quite affordable price. When my then girlfriend (now beautiful wife ๐Ÿ˜)ย  asked my what I wanted for my birthday in 2018, I sent her a little list of affordable automatic watches. I had been wanting to get my first mechanical for a while, but didn't feel comfortable spending more than 200โ‚ฌ on a watch (oh how times have changed, I'm writing this review with a 2000โ‚ฌ watch on my wristย ๐Ÿคช). My wonderful wife decided to go for the most attractive and most expensive watch on the list, and I finally had my first auto.ย

After that, it basically became my daily wear for about 4 years, until I somehow cracked the glass. When re-shifting my watch collection to mechanicals in 2021, I decided to have the glass repaired by Junkers for 20โ‚ฌ(!).

Facts:ย From a purely objective point of view, the watch is well made, I do enjoy German build quality. The watches back then were made by POINTtec, a German watch manufacturer, whi today have a couple of their own brands and no longer produce Junkers.

Here are some of the most important dimensions:ย

Case diameter: 40mm

Thickness: 12,5mm

Lug-to-lug: 43mm

Lug width: 20mmย

Signed crown diameter: 6mm

The design is based on Bauhaus principles, rather fittingly, since Hugo Junkers was a supporter of the school of Bauhaus back in the 1930s. Creme dial, lumed hands and some additional lume at 12, 3, 6 and 9.

The movement inside is the Miyota 9132 and has about 40h of power reserve. In the years I have owned it, it hasn't been serviced and still runs fairly well at around +10s a day.

The 6060-5 originally came on a brown leather strap, this needed replacing and therefore the watch is currently on a Marburger Milanese band.ย

Thoughts:ย The watch obviously has a sentimental value for me, that overshines any negatives in my eyes.ย

However, the movement rattle is so loud, it had me think the watch was broken when I first got it ๐Ÿ˜€

The value for the price (back then around 350โ‚ฌ) and the solidity plus the imo really attractive looks, make this a great watch for anyone looking for something a bit dressier.

Junkers still have an updated version of this watch in their catalogue, however, at 800โ‚ฌ for a Miyota I find it very overpriced, and therefore can't recommend the current model. For that amount of money, I'd probably look towards the Junghans Max Bill and Meister collections.

As mentioned before, however, it will definitely stay in my collection permanently.ย
