2006 Rolex Explorer II 16570

After spending more than a week with just one watch: Testing our prototype for the upcoming release of our field watch! This rekindled my love for another classic in my collection: The Rolex Explorer II. Spending the day wearing again this watch reminded me of the utility and build quality that stainless steel Rolex watches are known for. The classic 40mm sizing really fits my small skinny wrists so well versus the newer 42mm version of this model. In my opinion, the Explorer II is an underappreciated watch in the Rolex collection overshadowed by its GMT Master and Submariner siblings. This watch actually partially inspired us to create the field watch we will be releasing soon as I wouldn't dare take this to the mountains!

*Yes, I did just come from a hike in Mt. Ulap, so I just wore this when we got back to our BnB.

I like the old explorers so much better than the new ones. In fact, I like all the old Rolex models better.

Got to agree! Tried on the 42mm version a while back and though I love the extra pop of the orange, the size is a bit too big and top heavy. Wish they would bring back the older sizes. Maybe since the Explorer I is back to 36mm, they might consider scaling down their sizes again.
