Legit check or Investigate a Watch

I'm looking into many watches as my first Rolex, and I keep seeming to widen my net and look at other options.

A lot of these have been older 5 digit reference Rolex models and I'm wondering what's the best way to know if it's real, or if it even existed.

I usually try searching the reference number on Chrono24, here, instagram etc.
