Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich or Monta Altas
I am thinking of buying a new watch for my birthday and I don't know which to get. I've always loved the Speedmaster and the Sapphire Sandwich I've tried and looks great (If perhaps a little flashy for everyday use) but I think the Monta for everyday wear, build quality and quick adjust bracelet is amazing. Should I pay the extra for my grail watch which I would feel a bit worried wearing everyday or get the Monta that I know I would wear more, love but it's not a grail watch?

If you want a GMT, get the Monta. If you want a chronograph...
Get your grail and wear the hell out of it. Take it on a ton of adventures. Climb mountains, go to parties, eat great food, stay up too late, do some things you probably shouldn't, see some great sunsets and beautiful sunrises. Let it live it's life with you and get a bit scrapped along the way and then look down at your slightly battered watch in 40yrs and think, "Wow bud, we've had some fun". 👍
Agreed, these are two very different watches. My experience is that IF you have the means to get the grail piece, get the grail piece. A Speedmaster is built for a lifetime, and you can do just about anything with it on your wrist. The newer 3861 movement is amazing, and the comfort level of the newer bracelet is outstanding. Best of luck with your decision making process on this, it is never easy!
I’ve got the Hesalite Speedy and the Monta Skyquest (so very similar to the Atlas). The Monta wears waaay better, the bracelet is a dream and the quick adjust really comes in handy in the summer. That being said, the Speedmaster is a beautiful watch, the dial pops and has great contrast. It’s also a strap monster if you get tired of the bracelet (I’ve even put it on a bright orange tropic strap and it looked decent lol), plus there are third party options like Forstner out there – I have mine on the Forstner Flat Link currently.
I bought my speedy summer of 2019 and Monta summer of 2021, I’m glad I had so much time in between as the speedy was my most worn during its first two years and the Monta has been first choice since I got it. Good luck and happy early birthday, you can’t go wrong with either choice!
