I'll be wearing this 1990's Hamilton reproduction of the Piping Rock model given to the NY Yankees for being the 1928 champs. True to the original at 29x41mm and handwinding. Genuine croc strap.
The starkness and minimalism of the dial, and complete lack of clutter. The whiteness of the dial. The sharp angles of the case. The lugs. Pretty much everything except the Romans on the bezel.
I'm not saying it looks like watches now, because I don't see any watches now that look like this. I can't name one. I'm saying that if this watch never came out in 1928 and was released right now, with a few lettering changes or even maybe not, it would look completely contemporary.

Here's what they thought in 1928
the Piping Rock was described in the Hamilton catalog as “an ultra-modern strap watch styled by designers of international prominence.”
It's the size that keeps it looking as old as it is.
But if they super sized it to todays standards it would look downright awful.

From 95 years ago.
Time heals all wounds.
1928? That's a modern looking watch. That could have been released last week.

You're not serious are you?
What looks "modern" in your eyes.
