Hitori: highly controversial but I like it…

I bought this hitori at half the price and absolutely love the textured dial. I know it’s highly controversial but I find this watch a super comfortable dress piece that can actually be used for more occasions except for the fact that it doesn’t have lume, other than that this piece is very versatile and matches with my daily wear.

Looks nice. I’m a big fan of dauphine hands. Why is it controversial?

Ah there was a big debate on watchcrunch recently talking about how it’s not authentically Japanese, and that they’re a Chinese brand trying to copy Japanese culture and didn’t do a good job at that. Well… I’m not Japanese so I can’t really take a stand on whether they’re right or wrong, but I feel as if it’s a nice piece and it feels really good quality, so it’s in my eyes a great purchase

Misleading the customer is morally wrong in my book. But if you like the watch, you like the watch. I think many of the Chinese manufacturers are really good nowadays. So congrats of the purchase, enjoy it!

But the thing is I’m not very sure whether it’s Chinese or Japanese, I had similar concerns when purchasing this piece and asked my retailer if the watch brand is fully Japanese, he said yes, everything about it is Japanese, 100%. So I’m actually quite confused at this point 🤣

At the same time they didn’t exactly mislead as they kinda said “inspired by Japanese…” in the GNOMON website so… 🤷but enjoying it so far

Are you sure? It says "Japanese independent watch brand" on Gnomon, them being Chinese is news to me though.

But the way I see it, whether there's deception and/or foul play happening here, if you know what you're getting into then enjoy the watch. The same can be applied to any other watch, I remember the PRX automatic getting a ton of hate for its movement but I still got it because I like the way it looks and the way it wears, no regrets whatsoever.
