Letting it go

Letting a watch go is more difficult than letting a girlfriend to go.

Hands up if you agree

I’ve let go of more than 40 watches in the last 18 months.

The initial decision was easy when it clicked. Other things took precedence and the watches had to go. The sales process was enjoyable too.

Once I had whittled 50 down to 20, I paused. You can’t do these things too quickly otherwise it’s cold turkey time.

Eventually I was ready for the second round of sales and have since sold a further 18, adding four to round out at six.

Watches now occupy a more proportionate place in my collecting, behind books and art.
