Story of a beater watch - when one door closes, another opens

Mods - hope this is okay - no conflict of ineterst with the seller - just reporting my experience

Folks

You may recall I posted before Christmas about a green bezel no-date submariner homage replacement for my old beater watch.

I decided to have a go at cleaning up my old beater. I got the movement out and use a lighter flame to heat up the cyclops so I could take it off. In the process, I cracked the crystal (you can see in the top pic) and then scratched the bezel insert trying to get the bezel off to change the glass. I decided to call it a day and started looking for replacement casesets on Ebay.

I then came across a listing for a 40mm no-date submariner homage from a seller just an hour a way from me. It had the maxi hands, no date configuration I wanted and for just £75GBP including shipping I thought I would give it a go, as I would have paid the same in parts. The seller had given a good 'technical' description stating the watch had sapphrie crystal, polished ceramic bezel insert, NH35 movement and screw links (see second pic).

It arrived yesterday and I am stunned at what I have for the money. It had nice packaging, a user manual, and even the bracelet screws were lubricated and easy to replace. The clasp is short and has a divers extension. Okay it has the maxi case but it has a clear caseback onto the NH35 movement so I don't mind so much.

I left feedback for the seller and told him he should charge more. It turns out he runs an online watch and jewellery business, and times are such that he is having to sell off stock. He was ever so helpful and even confirmed the bezel insert size for me so I can have a go at replacing the bezel insert with a green one.

So as one door closed on my dead old beater, a new door opens on my beater 2.0.

If you want a 124060 homage beater watch, you could do a lot worse than this.
