Titan Watches

Let me start by saying that this is not a review of Titan watches. These are just some facts and my thoughts on Titan watches, written to create awareness about yet another watch brand. Posts over the last couple of weeks regarding watches and their country of origin pushed me to write this.

The views posted here are purely my own, and there is a chance I could be wrong about some things. If you think I’ve stated something incorrectly, feel free to call it out in the comments.

For most Indians, their first watch will most likely be a Titan.

And why not? Titan watches make great gifts for birthdays, graduations, weddings, promotions, and any other happy occasion you can think of. If you ever travel to India, look around, and you’ll notice that most people who wear watches have a Titan on their wrists.

There could be many reasons for this. Strong brand recognition, great designs, and affordable watches with a multitude of options. Another factor that does not hurt Titan’s brand in India is its association with Tata, a well-respected institution considered to be a beacon of honesty and reliability.

There isn’t much about Titan watches on forums like WC or Reddit, so I thought why not get the ball rolling?

History: Titan is relatively new to watchmaking, being established in 1984. While it started with watches, it has since branched out to jewelry, perfumes, and eyewear.

Collection: Titan has collections for various occasions and buyers. They make everything between simple quartz and high-end mechanical watches. They also make their own movements, though some of their watches still use Chinese-made movements.

Standard Titans are typically formal watches, primarily meant to be worn as office wear.

SF makes durable watches, they compete with G-Shocks and ProTreks.

Fasttrack creates trendy watches for informal occasions.

Octane makes sport-themed watches, that resemble Casio’s Edifice collection.

Zoop: Kid’s watches.

Xylys: Swiss watches

Raga: Women’s watches

Sonata: Even more affordable watches.

Nebula: Luxury watches for women, with gems.

What do I like about the brand?

  • Designs: Titan makes watches for any occasion. Fasttrack watches can be funky, Octanes are sporty, while Titan’s main brand makes simple elegant watches. This one in particular can give the Bambino a run for its money, at least in terms of its looks.

  • Reliability: Titans can last a long time if treated decently well, giving the wearer a chance to make memories with them, and then pass them on.

  • Customer service: Their Customer Service is fast and resolves any issue without much fuss.

  • Themed watches: Titan often releases watches as part of themes. Not the same way Casio does, where the model color changes for each theme. Titan releases models which are only available as part of that theme, and I feel this gives the watch so much more character.

What do I not like about the brand?

  • Copied designs. Yes, I know I spoke about their great designs, but sometimes they also copy designs.

  • Poor straps and clasps: The straps and clasps can be a pain, but at these price points, it would be unfair to expect too much.

  • Lack of information on their movements. Their website does not clarify details about the movements being used in their watches, which can be enough to put someone off from pulling the trigger.

Titan today: These days, Titan faces competition from fashion brands such as Fossil, Armani, and smartwatch makers. Titan’s trying to hold on by creating their own smartwatches, while also retailing watches made by other brands through their stores.

Thank you drX for this. I saw a really distinctive Titan that I ordered from Amazon for $39. It ended up being sold out. I just figured it sold out because lots of people wanted it. It sure didn't look like a copy of anything.
