Wrist : Case Ratio

I have a 'girth-challenged' 16 cm wrist and for some reason cases 40mm and below make it look smaller. I know the BR in the pic looks huge but it works IRL. My sweet spot seems to be 41mm to 43mm although a 44 PAM submersible seems ok. Anyone else has this issue or should I visit an ophthalmologist?

You’re probably one of the few people who thinks bigger watches work on smaller wrists. That said, why not? The truth is, what size watch we feel we can wear is entirely subjective. Like 100% subjective. There really are no rules to it. Generalities sure, but no rules. One way you can see this is true is that the average men’s watch used to be like 34mm until probably the 1960s. In the 2000s it was over 40mm with 50mm not being uncommon. A few years ago reviewers were applauding watchmakers for making more “modern” sized watches of 40mm+. Now they applaud 36-38mm as perfect. It’s all fashion.

What you can wear is completely dependent on what you think you can wear.

Many people in Asia like to use a super big watch (hence the G-Shock and their monstrous size). If the people from the biggest continent on earth think that way, why not?

coincidence that my first milestone watch was a 37mm Aquaracer in the 90s and a decade later got into chunkier cases. In any case (heh) I kinda enjoy just looking at them since I don’t go out much so watchability trumps wearability 😄
