Royal Oak homages: a line-up

I had a look at the entire lineup in person (still need to check out the Christopher Ward).

.

1. Tissot PRX (£600)

This one is more of a Rolex Oysterquartz mixed with AP, but obviously in the 70s there was a trend of integrated bracelets. Omega had one in the Genève Line, manual wound and automatic

Thickness 10.9mm, WR 100m

.

2. Christopher Ward Twelve (£1050)

Very interesting weave dial texture. Tiffany blue? Check. They even have an article about Gerald Genta on the website. Indeed, why not be upfront about it. 40mm size. I have to say this one is really interesting.

Thickness 9.95mm, WR 100m

.

3. Maurice Lacroix Aikon (£2000)

Good quality finishing I must say. Can be had for £1500 with a discount. Sellita SW 200-1 movement, elaboré grade, and the watch is thinner (11mm) than the Zenith Skyline (12mm). Available in 41mm and 39mm, like the Royal Oak

Thickness 11mm, WR 200m

.

3.Zenith Skyline (£7900)

Excellent finishing, clearly inspired by AP with brushed surfaces and polished edges. Nice movement. Dial: not the waffle pattern, which is a plus. 12 sided bezel (not an octagon, well done.)

Thickness 12mm, WR 100m

.

4. Chopard Alpine Eagle (£12000)

Bezel to dial ratio is such, that the 41mm case looks much smaller. Very unusual dial that is meant to be inspired by an eagle’s eye. Quite nice. At 9.7mm the thinnest of the bunch.

WR 100m

.

5. Girard Perregaux Laureato (£12000)

Well it has an octagonal bezel and a waffle dial. The bracelet is inspired by the Nautilus. Not sure about all this. One of the reasons is the overdone branding, where they’re also trying to imitate AP. Doesn’t work as the GP is far less elegant than the AP monogram. 42mm diameter and it’s not hiding that.

Thickness 10.68mm, WR 100m

.

Finally the AP Royal Oak: starting at 8.1mm thickness up to 10.4, depending on the model.

WR 50m

Yes! It is quite the offering. I found the bracelet is also very nice. I have been looking at the 39mm for my wrist, probably blue dial. The AR coating makes the black almost look slightly blue, which is nice too

Indeed, they have that bezel. Do the screws also go through all the way?

·

Add the Casio GA2100 and Baume & Mercier Riviera to that list. 😊

·

Christopher Ward Twelve needs to be added to the list, it's a PRX with more going on in a good way.

·

Well on the AP they go through from the back into the hollow front screws and that then tightens the seal that sits under the bezel. Bell & Ross have done it like that on their newer BR03 models.

Actually I wanted to focus on mechanical only for now. Otherwise we also have to add the other Tissot
